My latest story for The Daily Cabal is up. I wrote most of this one while watching 'Winterfest', a holiday celebration at Katie's school. Amy said that when she and Katie happened across the music teacher in the restroom line, that the teacher said "There's my lead singer". How nice!

Have a Very Merry Christmas, everyone.

One of my parents sayings that doesn't seem to be in the common parlance was, "He wouldn't be happy if you hung him with a new rope."

Here is my latest story for The Daily Cabal, with a narrator who's in that situation.

I just said goodbye to our writer's group, Sound on Paper, which conveniently meets at our house. Amy's off at Potlatch, so I hosted with Katie, who had Girl Scout Cookies to deliver. Usually we have stories from at least two, often three or four, of the six of us, but this time it was only my story, the first chapter of what may very well be my first novel, temporarily titled To All a Good Night. They all liked it and want to see where the story's going, the zombie-multi-Santa-Claus scene went over every bit as well as I thought it would. And they all thought it sounded rushed, as if it were meant to be a short story that just turned a corner and found itself morphing into a novel.

I'm so busted.

My latest story for The Daily Cabal attempts to Immanentize the Esantachaton (what? oh, now you're just being silly). As always, I request that you post comments on the Cabal rather than here; that way other folks can read them attached to the story.

The new issue of Talebones is out, including a story by me. I'm in good company, with stories by James van Pelt, William Nolan, and Julie McGalliard, among others, under a very pretty wraparound cover by Michaela Eaves. [info]mallory_blog brings the first review that I've seen.

I just played with Wordle for the first time. You paste a bunch of text into it, and it responds with a piece of art that emphasizes keywords. Of course what I pasted it was all of the stories I've written so far for The Daily Cabal (deleting my byline and dates and such). I must use the word 'one' quite a lot.
